New Year, New Pup: Good Habits to Establish for Your Dog in 2025

Happy New Year to all of our loyal customers! We hope you have a great start to 2025!

As we welcome the new year, it's the perfect time to think about setting positive habits for your furry friend. Establishing good routines not only improves your dog's health and well-being but also strengthens the bond you share. Here are some beneficial habits to introduce to your dog in 2025. (You might well do some of these already, but it's always good to be organised!).

1. Regular exercise: We all know how important the W word is...walkies should be a standard part of your dog's routine. Keeping your dog active is crucial for their physical and mental health. Whether it's daily walks, runs, or play sessions, make sure your dog gets enough exercise to stay fit and happy.

Keep in mind the activity level to your dog's breed, age, and energy levels. Tennis ball launchers, the type of lead, and any training equipment can help to alter your pup's exercise experience.

2. Healthy eating: Much like us humans, your dog may have been able to indulge in a few extra tasty treats over the Christmas period! It's good to keep your dog's diet largely consistent, so getting back to a regular routine is a great way to ensure your dog stays fit and healthy, be it wet or dry dog food! Balanced meals are the way to go, with natural treats such as yak chews and or food toppers providing extra nutrients and supplements within their diet.

3. Consistent training: Perhaps Christmas gave you a new furry addition to the family? Or perhaps it meant you let your guard down a little and now your dog thinks they own the sofa! Regardless, it's good to reinforce basic commands, whether you've got a new pup or a cheeky rebel! Introducing new tricks can stimulate your dog’s mind and improve their behaviour. Consistent training sessions, even for a few minutes each day, help reinforce positive behaviours and make your dog more obedient and confident. Search our training supplies here

4. Keep updated on their health: Regular check-ups with the vet are essential for monitoring your dog's health. Annual or bi-annual visits can catch potential health issues early and keep vaccinations and preventative care up to date. Schedule some visits to the vet into your calendar if it's been a while since your dog's last check-up!

Dental hygiene is often a neglected part of our pet's routines, but it is vital for their overall health! A good idea is to get into the habit of brushing your dog’s teeth regularly with pet-safe toothpaste and providing dental chews to help reduce plaque and tartar build-up.

5. Mental stimulation: Keep your dog’s mind sharp by providing puzzle toys, interactive games, and regular enrichment challenges. Mental stimulation can reduce boredom and prevent behavioural issues. Shop our interactive dog toys here!

6. Grooming routine: Establish a regular grooming routine that includes brushing, bathing, nail trimming, and ear cleaning. Grooming not only keeps your dog looking great but also promotes good health by reducing the risk of skin issues and infections.

7. Quality time: Introducing your dog to new people and environments can help reduce their anxiety and boost their confidence and ability to adapt to new situations. And it won't be much of a chore to balance this out with some special one-on-one time between you and your dog; spending quality time with your dog strengthens your bond and improves their emotional well-being - whether it's cuddling on the couch, playing fetch, or simply being in each other's company!

The start of a new year is a wonderful opportunity to set new habits and goals for you and your dog. By incorporating or solidifying these habits into your routine, you’ll help your furry friend lead a healthier, happier, and more fulfilled life. Here’s to a fantastic 2025 filled with wagging tails and joyful moments!
